 2017 Preview 


       West End completed the 2016 season with a 6-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region seven, the Patriots earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. West End reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Lanett by a score of 53-14.

       It marked the first time since the 2010 season that the Patriots qualified for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, West End has gone a combined 22-51. Their 30.0% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 2A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, West End has managed to compile a record of 142-130. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 2A and 173rd in the AHSAA.

       The Patriots are led by head coach Kyle Davis who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 14-18 over the past three seasons at West End. Under his direction the Patriots have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Davis.

       Coach Davis' overall record as a head football coach in ten season stands at 41-62 (39.8%). Over the course of his career, Coach Davis' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

       The West End Patriots will play in Class 2A region seven during the 2017 season.

       The Patriots will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region seven this season.

       The Patriots open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Glencoe on Friday, August 25 at Patriot Stadium. Last year the Glencoe Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 3A region five. The Yellow Jackets closed out the regular season with a loss to Southside Gadsden by a score of 28-21.

       West End and Glencoe have met a total of 28 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 11-16-1 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2016 with Glencoe winning by a score of 28-21.

       West End returns 2A All-State Senior offensive lineman DeWayne Miller. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Patriots also return Senior running back Jordan Malin. He was named to the honorable mention team. The Patriots also return Junior defensive lineman Michael Patton. He was named to the second team.
